Bamboo Structure/Village

in cooperation with the Capuyan Construction Company, Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and the Students for Development program of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada

Description

To construct a structure utilizing mostly, if not wholly bamboo, as a prototype to demonstrate the use of inexpensive and readily available material that is also aesthetically and functionally relevant.

The foundation coordinated with the Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver, Canada for the involvement of two design interns for the designing and planning level of the Bamboo Village. The area was already identified and was already planted with varieties of bamboo. The structure is an initial phase of a much larger contemplated project focused on creating a training center for design.

Recently, the Canadian Interns are working on their vision plan to create educated groups of people that can train others on harvesting, treating, and building techniques along with developing a modern Filipino housing designs. The foundation will be their partner in educating other towns so they too can create local economies and better livelihoods through working with bamboo for the people.
