Pulp and Paper
With the worlds wood shortage and the need to preserve our forests the recycling of paper products has been one way of reducing the number of trees cut down for paper every year. This however is no longer enough. The pulp and paper industry is now looking at fibrous plants other than trees for producing the enormous quantities of newsprint, tissues, towels, packaging and printing paper, and all the various paper products we use today.
Bamboo is one of those plants that can be manufactured into high quality paper products that can be printed on, used for currency, or everyday products. Bamboo fibers can also be extracted and used to make hand made art papers. Papermaking can be a profitable craft that can be done with minimal materials and some basic training. Later paper can be combined with bamboo to make small art items or lamps for interior decorating.
